Actually the genesis of a Christian life is that which is etched in second Corinthians chapter five verse seventeen. One could audibly imagine Christ (the Creator of the new creation) shouting “All things have become new!” This is a spiritual birth through the Blood of Jesus. The difference between this birth and the biological one is that the Spiritual birth is about Life after Life. On the other hand the biological one is about Life before Life. In other words, spiritual reproduction connotes being born again: Having an existence after a prior one. Looking at the prior existence, it directly points to the existence of humanity starting from Adam. An existence from the creation of man under the auspices of God. During this primeval period of creation, man was created in dual forms: bodily and spiritually (Genesis 2:7).
Consequently, the fruits in the Garden of Eden (except the forbidden one) were producing fruits for both the spiritual and the physical nourishment of man. No wonder there was nothing like Watch and Pray for Adam and Eve then. The couple neither need to pray nor fast for any reason. By default human life was a pleasing sacrifice to God.
Unfortunately, Adam was not watching while Eve was not praying when the Serpent walked in, beguiled humanity and crept out (Gen.3). The short scene excruciatingly altered the course of humanity. Man was spiritually deactivated; the aura of Eternity was withdrawn from him. A gap was created between God and man: death was activated while the feminine predicament of the gender caste popped up. The cherished creatures were thus ejected from their paradise.
The sin of disobedience seems light; but man was over burdened by its attachments of guilt with punishment. Man that had opportunities of seeing God wholly must now make sacrifices before he could hear from God. Man fell from the peak of creation to its lowest elm. Humanity therefore had to struggle back to the peak by virtue of animal sacrifices for atonement and propitiation. Despite all these, humanity remains in tacit darkness. All through the era of the Judges, the Prophets and the Kings, man was falling and rising, his propitiations guarantees no perpetual purification (Heb. 10:3-4).
Sin might be small or large in quantity but it has same quality. An ounce of sin weighs same with a kilogram of sin. It is like a droplet of ink on white apparel – notwithstanding the size of the spot – it draws negative optical judgements. SIN is Small In Nature but it constantly denies man the proposed blessings making him to be bereft of hope. The weight of sin clogs the progression of man towards grace and ‘cobwebs’ him into eternal humiliation.
Lot’s wife was not a whore; she was a modest woman and a responsible mummy to her daughters. But her sins of lust, doubt and disobedience was as heavy as the immorality and sodomy of Sodom and Gomorrah. The sin was so heavy that it prevented her from getting to the village of Zoar for safety (Gen. 19).
Gehazi (II Kings 5:20-27) allowed the sins of greed and lies to weigh him down from inheriting the multiple anointing of Prophet Elisha. Instead of the anointing Gehazi received a yoke of genetic leprosy.
Sapphira, the dutiful wife of Ananias, was privileged to be among the early believers. The heavy sins of conspiracy and lie retarded her pace towards eternal reward (Acts 5:1-10).
Demas (II Tim.4:10a) would been a true yoke fellow (a loyal syzygus) with Apostle Paul but he was weighed down by the love of the world – ephemeral things that are passing away.
Had it not been for Christ, none could have been on a safer ground to adjudge these unfortunate heroes. Humanity would have been like sheep without shepherd. God, in His loving kindness, gave His only single Son that through him there shall be remission of sins. No Adam ever prayed to God to do such a thing. But in His infinite love and wisdom, God decided to rescue humanity and shame the progenitor of sin, which is the Devil (II Cor. 4:6). With the fall of man, humanity has been struggling to stay aloof dirty dregs and muddy mire. But how could that be possible, with the burdensome load of sin?
Jesus took away the heavy load; He willingly bridged the gap between man and God. For our sake death was swallowed in victory (I Cor.15:54-5). Sin was bondage but no more, because we are now free. Free indeed! Jesus Christ rescued humanity with his blood that cleanses better than Hyssop (Heb. 9:22). Man can now look at sin and say: “Sin I have seen my Redeemer. I am no more your slave!” The crux of the matter is that the redemptive work at Golgotha gives freedom to mankind.
Prior to the above, everyman was born without the aura of eternity. All were born empty. This is in coherence with the Philosophic notion of the tabular rasa. Man was born free and empty. But it is important for him to live as a being of choice and responsibility. Man cannot remain empty he either becomes heavy or light. The spiritual cadre of man is thus in three forms: the Empty Being, the Heavy Being and the Light Being.
To be an Empty Being is to be tactless and free from judgements. The empty being is the man who is yet unable to make decisions on his own let alone being responsible for sin. As one cannot expect a baby to know how a matchstick can lit a candle, one should not expect an empty being to be culpable for anything since he is tactless. Little children and insane folks may be categorized as empty due to their ignorance of their actions. They lack in-depth examination or moral evaluation of what they have done or what to be done. Everyone began his/her existence in this level before choosing to ne heavy or light.
Meanwhile, the heavy being and the light being are individuals of responsibility: they are solely responsible for whatsoever action performed by them. They have the cognizance of their unquestioned ability to choose anything, either right or wrong.
The heavy being is the man whose choices had placed him under the heavy weight of sin (John 8:34). He is helplessly perspiring under the yoke of bondage of sin: his life is altogether sinful and devoid of Christ. Such person might be wealthy, poor; famous or notorious, literate or illiterate: but the absence of Christ in his heart has paved way for Lucifer to make his life a domain for sin. He is drenched in immorality (Gal. 5:19-21). Although this individual may portray himself as a believer, a Christian or even a Pastor; yet the Christ is having no business with him/her (Matt. 25:10).
However, the light being is the pilgrim who has passed through the slough of despond without getting drowned. A new creature that have been separated from worldliness into holiness. A Christian who is a Christian in the real sense of being a Christian is the light being. S/he has made a choice of allowing the light of the Holy Spirit to permeate his/her being and flush out sin in all its ramifications. The blood of Jesus has cleansed him/her from all iniquities and his life now blossoms with the fruits of the spirit (Gal. 5:22-3). Such individual has been baptised into a new life in Christ Jesus. S/he is set free indeed (John 8:36) and yoked to honour Christ. It can be said that the light man is totally free from sin.
Every born again Christian will ever more desire to be a light being, for one reason or the other. If there is no reason at all, one reason stands sure for every believer to be a Light Being. Christ will never have pleaded in vain that we should take his yoke upon us. He certainly promised rest unto our souls (Matt.11:29). This rest signifies eternity; it is a rest for a substance that cannot die. It does cannot be a rest for our mortal flesh in this world of turbulence.
No matter the velocity of any dynamo, none could launch a train into the orbit. Why? The train cannot overrule the gravitational law, because of its immense weight. That is a being that is heavy with sin will not be rapturable. S/he is unto the train; s/he must obey the spiritual gravitational law as stipulated by the devil. Jesus Christ knew the significance of being light, which is why his yoke is easy while his burden is light (Matt.11:30).
People die daily and get to the final lap of their earthly race towards eternity. Perhaps everyone is already aware of the efficacy of death. But few are aware that death is a birth into another beginning – a beginning that has no ending. A beginning of eternal gnashing of teeth or a beginning of eternal singing of praises. It is high time we chose to be light. It is high time we laid aside every weight/sin that easily slows us down (Heb.12:1). It is time to consider sin as an inimical plot of the Devil against humanity.
He would be valiant be
‘Gainst all disaster.
Let him in constancy follow the Master.
There is no discouragement shall make him once relent
His first avowed intent
To be a pilgrim.
Who so beset him round
With dismal stories.
Do but themselves confound –
His strength the more is.
No foes shall stay his might,
Though he with giants fight:
He will make good his right
To be a pilgrim.
Since, Lord, thou dost defend
Us with thy Spirit

Zealous believers, every time, should everywhere abstain from sin in all its appearances; keeping it in mind that only the light will be swift for the flight.
